Electric Vehicle Maker Scoops Top Green Award

17/12/2010

Electric vehicle manufacturer Allied Electric has been recognised for its impact in helping reduce automotive emissions.  Allied received the high-profile award for 'Outstanding Contribution to the Scottish Environment' at the 2010 Scottish Green Awards, held in Glasgow.

The Green Awards were created as a platform to share and celebrate projects and initiatives which have made a significant difference in addressing environmental issues and helping achieve ambitious national climate change targets.  Individuals, voluntary organisations and private sector companies were among those recognised in the 2010 awards.

Electric Vehicle Progress

Allied was chosen by the judges for its work in developing a new range range of commercial electric vehicles.

Managing director, Paul Nelson, commented: "Creating this exciting new range of electric vehicles has been a long and at times challenging road.

"However the end result of our extensive research and development is one of the world's first complete ranges of all-electric light commercial vehicles.  This range of electric vans and cars offers a real and viable alternative to standard, high-emission vehicles."

Electric Vehicles for Today

Nelson added: "This award adds welcome recognition of Scottish engineering innovation and helps raise awareness that electric vehicles are here today, not just a pipe dream for the future."

Allied Electric is part of the successful Allied Vehicles Group, which employs more than 300 people in North Glasgow.
