Going for Gold
Games Organisers turned to Allied Vehicles to provide transport for wheelchair users at this year's Special Olympics, held across Glasgow from 1-8 July. The company are providing a fleet of wheelchair accessible MPVs, minibuses and taxis to transport athletes across the city.
With more than 2,500 athletes with learning disabilities participating, the Games were the biggest sporting event to take place in the UK this year. Allied Vehicles were delighted to support the Special Olympics and worked closely with the organisers to arrange transportation of athletes at this major sporting occasion.
Managing Director Gavin Gillies commented: "We provided a number of specially adapted vehicles to transport Olympians between their accommodation and the various sporting arenas.
"Allied Vehicle were in the perfect position to do this as not only do we have a wide range of wheelchair accessible private vehicles but we also have a fleet of E7 wheelchair accessible taxis in operation throughout the city."
Gillies added: "We were delighted that the Games organisers selected our vehicles to assist wheelchair-using athletes and delighted to play our part in supporting this exciting event."
Vehicles employed to transport competitors included the Peugeot Monarch - a 17 seater minibus that can be adapted to carry up to three wheelchairs; the Peugeot Independence - a multi passenger vehicle which features the unique EasyGlideTM under-floor pull-out ramp; and the Fiat Freedom - a spacious family car where a passenger in the rear seat sits alongside the wheelchair passenger.
